About Me

anna hillman cartoon drawing cameraHello. My name is Anna Hillman. I am a free-lance photographer, environmentalist and urban explorer, seeking to promote awareness, enjoyment of and responsibility for our local environment and consequently our collective impact globally. I am based in London, UK.

I have undertaken photography commissions for Kent Wildlife Trust, Homerton Hospital NHS Trust, the Shoreditch Community Maternity Centre, and Tidemill School in Deptford, amongst others. Please check out these commissions on my photography website. I have also run photography workshops for children at the Natural History Museum, London, and for Kent Wildlife Trust.

In 2008, I won Environmentalist of the Year for my Amazingness project, in the Archant:London Environmental Awards.

I’ve always loved being outside, wandering about the city, not necessarily for the purpose of getting anywhere specific. I become wholly aware of my surroundings and my thoughts become free and alive.

I feel more connected, not only to the place where I am, but to the earth as a whole. And I’m constantly finding AMAZING things…

Welcome to Amazingness!

Love, Hope and Joy to all.

    Hi Anna
I’m your Dad’s ‘studio neighbour’ in Sheen. We met a while ago (maybe even when we were absolute neighbours, down the red ‘Daniel’ end of the alleyway … now we’re separated by stairs and lawn-mower-man!), and your Dad was talking about your Amazingness site – it’s great! I love clouds too, and we’ve had some superb ones rushing by in the past few days.
I thought you might like to know (and even come and photograph) a weed that has started to grow inside my (first floor) studio … the fast-growing shrubby thing that’s outside at the back has clearly found a wee hole in the wall and is making in-roads into my space … it’s very surreal, and although not ideal (and makes me wonder even more about the insulation of the place) I plan to let it have its own way at least for the time being. Needless to say, your Dad thought it was rather funny, and that’s why we started to talk about your Amazingness blog.
So maybe see you soon! Keep snapping up those clouds! Laura

      Hi Laura,
I would love to come and photograph your indoor weed! I’ll come over when Dad is back from holiday. Hopefully it won’t have outgrown its welcome by then.

    Hi Anna,
I love your pictures and am so glad you’re continuing this work. I can see the pictures filling a beautiful published book sometime.

Hi Anna, I’ve just found your blogs thanks to Kininvie blogroll. I enjoyed your urban pictures and your musings: simple, strong, you seem to be communicative in both ways: images and words. Very nice ‘other-view’ of London, a City I just love.
    Thanks.
